Registering for Mass

Is everyone entitled to register to attend Mass? Can I attend mass in the church?

Yes, subject to meeting the conditions set by the SOP and Archdiocese Guidelines which are:

  • The number of attendees at any service is limited to one third of the capacity of the place of worship;
  • Worshippers who are exhibiting symptoms like fever, cough, respiratory issues and cold are not allowed to participate. Worshippers who have diabetes, cancer and other issues are not encouraged to attend;
  • Those above the age of 70 years and children below the age of 12 are permitted to attend, provided they are physically healthy without any prevailing health conditions;
  • All attendees are to undergo temperature scanning and registration before entering the place of worship. The Archdiocese would have additional QR Code scanning for our own records to assist the authorities in contact listing and tracing;
  • The various places of worship would still be subject to additional conditions imposed by the State authorities.

One basic principle of Canon Law is that no one is obliged to do the impossible. You have not sinned if:

  • Mass is not available*; OR
  • If it is not possible for you to attend for grave reasons* (eg. travel, sickness, or caring for family members).

However, we are reminded to take part in a liturgy of the Word or to spend an appropriate time in prayer*.

* Refer to Canon 1248 for more details
