Holy Family Kajang’s 125 Years Anniversary

Message from Parish Priest

Dear friends,

The Church of the Holy Family warmly welcomes you to participate in a pilgrimage experience on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the consecration of the first stone church built on these grounds. The parish has grown from a small mission centre of the parish St John, Kuala Lumpur (currently the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist), into one of the largest parishes within the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur in terms of territorial size and population.

Under the patronage of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, this parish has become a vibrant diverse community of faith, ministering to peoples of different cultures, languages and nationalities. With Christ Jesus at the centre of our community, and the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Joseph as our constant guides, companions and intercessors, we embrace this jubilee year with enthusiasm trusting that the Lord would pour His choicest blessings on all our parishioners and pilgrims from far and near. We continue to be a Catholic family of families, a communion of communities, committed to spiritual renewal, especially in four areas of growth, that is our spiritual (liturgical and prayer) life, our faith knowledge, our common bond as a community and our need to become a missionary parish.

Vatican’s Apostolic Penitentiary has decreed that a plenary indulgence can be gained by all our pilgrims to the Church of the Holy Family during her Jubilee Year from the 28th December 2025 (Solemnity of the Holy Family), the opening of the Jubilee Year until the 27th December 2026, the closing of the same.

We hope that you can avail of and benefit from the spiritual activities prepared for you with the assistance of pilgrim guides. These activities include the Pilgrimage Walk, praying the Stations of the Holy Family, visiting the Heritage Centre, and personal devotion and prayer before the relics of Saints Louis and Zelie Martin (parents of St Therese de Lisieux), who are patrons of marriage and family life.

May our Lord Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary and our Holy Patron, St Joseph, intercede for you and your family, that you may always trust in God’s promise of eternal life, doing whatever He asks of you during the passing days of your earthly pilgrimage.

Decree (Plenary Indulgence for Pilgrims)

The Apostolic Penitentiary, in order to increase the devotion of the faithful and for the salvation of souls, by virtue of the faculties attributed to it by the Supreme Pontiff Leo XIV by Divine Providence, listening to the recent request presented by the Most Reverend Julian Leow Beng Kim, Metropolitan Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, together with the Parish Priest of the Holy Family Parish of Kajang, of the same Archdiocese, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the said parish church, graciously grants the Plenary Indulgence from the heavenly treasures of the Church, under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer according to the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff) to the faithful motivated by a true spirit of penance and charity, from December 28, 2025, until December 27, 2026.

This Plenary Indulgence may also be applied as a suffrage to the souls in Purgatory and to the faithful who visit the Church of the Holy Family in the form of a pilgrimage and there devoutly take part in the Jubilee activities, Masses and liturgies, or at least, for a suitable period, engage in pious reflections, prayers, or other works of Christian devotion for the glory of God, and offer prayers for peace and concord among peoples and against the aberrations of the present age, concluding with the Lord’s Prayer, the Profession of Faith, and invocations of the Holy Family—Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

The Plenary Indulgence may also be granted to, provided that they detach themselves from any sins and intend to fulfill the three usual conditions as soon as possible, the elderly sick and all those who, unable to leave their homes for a grave reason, will unite themselves spiritually to the Jubilee Celebrations, offering to the Merciful God their prayers, pains or sufferings of their lives.

Therefore, in order that the opportunity to attain divine grace through the power of the Keys of the Church may be more easily realised through pastoral charity, this Penitentiary earnestly requests priests, equipped with the appropriate faculties to hear confessions, to make themselves available, in a ready and generous spirit, for the celebration of Penance.

This decree is valid for the duration of the parochial Jubilee. Anything whatsoever to the contrary notwithstanding.

Given at Rome, from the offices of the Apostolic Penitentiary, on the fifteenth day of December, in the Year of the Lord 2025.
